Tahavi Sharif is one of the Kutub al-Sittah (six major hadith collections) of Sunni Islam. It is a Hadith Sharif Book Written by Abu Ja'far Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭaḥawi or simply al-Ṭaḥawi. Taḥawi was born in the village of Taha in upper Egypt to an affluent family. He began his studies with his maternal uncle Isma`il ibn Yahya al-Muzani, a leading disciple of Shafi`i. When Tahawi was about 20 years old he abandoned the Shafi'i school and transferred to the Hanafi school. Different versions are given by his biographers of his conversion to the Hanafi school, but the most probable reason seems to be that the system of Abu Hanifa appealed to his critical insight more than that of Shafi'i. Tahawi then studied under the head of the Hanafis in Egypt, Ahmed ibn Abi 'Imran, who had himself studied under the two primary students of Abu Hanifa, Abu Yusuf and Muhammad al-Shaybani. Tahawi next went to Syria in 268/882 for further studies in Hanafi Law and became the pupil of the chief judge of Damascus. Tahawi gained an extraordinary knowledge of hadith in addition to Hanafi jurisprudence and consequently his study circles attracted many scholars who related hadith from him and transmitted his works. Among them were al-Da'udi, the head of the Zahiris in Khurasan and al-Tabarani well known for his biographical dictionaries of hadith transmitters. Tahawi's extraordinary knowledge of hadith in addition to Hanafi jurisprudence is evident from his significant book Kitab ma'ani al-athar and his concise creed (aqida) has also achieved a prominent place among most Sunni scholars to this day.
ইমাম আবু জাফর তাহাবী (র) ছিলেন একজন শ্রেষ্ঠ হাদীস বিশারদ ও অত্যন্ত উঁচুমানের ফকীহ (ইসলামী আইনজ্ঞ)। তৃতীয় শতকের একজন বিশেষজ্ঞ আলিমে দীন হিসেবে খ্যাত এই মনীষীকে হাদীস বিশেষজ্ঞগণ হাফিয ও ইমাম এবং ফকীহগণ মুজতাহিদ আলিম হিসেব আখ্যায়িত করেছেন। মিসরের ‘তাহা’ নামক স্থানে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছেন বিধায় তাঁকে ‘তাহাবী’ বলা হয়। তাঁর সংকলিত হাদীস এবং হাদীসের বিধানাবলী ও হাদীস বিজ্ঞান বিষয়ক গ্রন্থ ‘শারহু মাআনিল আসার’ তাহাবী শরীফ নামে পরিচিত ও প্রসিদ্ধ। এটি মূলত হানাফী মাযহাবের দলীলভিত্তিক সংকলনের একটি হাদীস গ্রন্থ। মানবজীবনে প্রয়োজনীয় আহকাম বিষয়ক হাদীসগুলোকে এখানে একত্রিত করা হয়েছে। গ্রন্থটি বিভিন্ন অনুচ্ছেদে বিভক্ত। প্রতিটি অধ্যায়ে ‘নাসিখ’ মানসূখ, বিশেষজ্ঞ আলিম-মনীষীদের ব্যাখ্যা-বিশ্লেষণসমূহ সন্নিবেশীত। শরীআহর বিভিন্ন বিধান সম্পর্কে ইমাম তাহাবীর মতামত এটাতে বিস্তারিত আলোচিত হয়েছে। এছাড়া বিভিন্ন আলিমদের অভিমতগুলো এখানে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।
